Fairfax Residence

Jacksonville, Florida

The existing two story house is located in the historic Fairfax neighborhood. The 1,600 sf building was built in 1940 on wood frame with brick veneer and the sloped tile roof. The project program included the renovation of the existing structure and a new addition of 2,800 sf.

The addition required the design of a new living room, kitchen, dining area, master bedroom suite, foyer, laundry and game room on the first floor and a third bedroom and bath on the second floor together with the library space on the bridge that is connecting the new structure with the existing house.

Due to the historic nature of the Ortega neighborhood; traditional materials, proportions and building construction were applied to the exterior of the house while contemporary design was the preferred option for the interior space.

An accessory building and swimming pool were added to the project program when neighboring property was acquired. The accessory building has an outside entertainment space with a summer kitchen, four car garage, shop, bathrooms and additional storage on the second floor. The space in between the two buildings will be used for the swimming pool, sun deck, putting green , fire feature and extensive landscape design.
